FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What will my student do at camp?
Students spend most of the day in rehearsals focused on All-State audition music. They work with conductors and section leaders in both full choir and sectional settings. The goal is to build confidence and prepare for the All-State audition process.
What does a typical day look like?
Each day includes morning rehearsal, lunch, afternoon rehearsal, dinner, and an evening rehearsal or activity. Breaks for social activities, refreshments and vocal rest are included throughout the day. A full sample schedule is available on the website.
Are meals included?
Day campers receive lunch and dinner each day. Overnight campers receive breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Are evening rehearsals required and when is pickup?
Each day includes a rehearsal after dinner followed by a recreational activity. Day campers are expected to stay for evening rehearsals and are encouraged to stay for activities. Pickup for day campers is typically between 8:00–9:00 p.m., with slight variations by day (see sample schedule on the website).
What kinds of evening activities are offered?
After rehearsal, campers participate in organized social activities such as game night, scavenger hunt, talent show, and/or movie night.
Where do overnight campers stay?
Overnight campers stay in Maverick Hall on the UTA campus. Students are housed two per room, and each room has a private bathroom. Men and women are housed on separate floors. College student counselors live on each floor and supervise students.
How are students supervised and kept safe?
Student safety is a top priority. Campers are supervised at all times by trained college student counselors and camp staff. All camp staff are required to pass a criminal background check and complete Child Protection Training. Staff includes 12 full-time college student counselors who live in the dorms, 8 high school choral director clinicians, UTA vocal faculty and music staff, and camp directors.
Counselors:
- Live in the residence halls with students
- Conduct nightly room checks before lights out
- Escort and monitor students throughout the day
- Ensure no camper is ever left unattended
Additional safety measures include:
- Daily attendance is taken
- Students are supervised during all rehearsals, meals, and activities
- Structured transitions between all scheduled events
For arrival and dismissal, parents may:
- Drop off and pick up curbside, or
- Escort their student in and out (ID required)
Do I need to purchase music?
Yes. All campers must have the complete All-State audition music packet (either Large School Treble or Large School Tenor-Bass). Some schools provide music for their students, so you may want to check with your choir director first. We offer the packets for sale during registration as a convenience.
Is there a final performance?
Yes. Camp concludes with an informal performance on the final day, and families are encouraged to attend.
